The Short Break Scheme has been set up to enable anyone caring for another individual to have some free time.
Looking after someone can be exhausting as well as rewarding.  It's important for our well-being that we get regular breaks from caring, especially if it take up a lot of our time.

The support we provide may include some, or all of the following:

Emotional support
Assistance in attending health appointments
Networking and advocacy issues
Help with budgeting and applying for benefits
Sitting with someone to allow the carer some free time
Accessing the local community with individuals thereby freeing up the carer of their responsibility for a few hours.

Is there a charge?

No -
The service is free .
You can be allocated up to 52 hours of support to use as you wish. You may wish to have a regular day or you may prefer a couple of hours each week.  You can decide what suits your needs.

Once the hours have been exhausted there is an opportunity to continue receiving support- this would incur a charge.

How do I apply for support?

You can contact us directly at Cardiff Mind. We will then carry out a detailed assessment in your home and, if we feel we can offer the kind of support required you will be allocated a Support Worker who will work with you for the duration of the contract.
